Network topology is a sort of schematic description of a network’s arrangement and connection between various nodes through the line of connection. The nodes are senders and receive.
A network topology can be an arrangement of nodes, switches, routers, or software switch features. It can also be said that it is an arrangement of connections in a network. Topologies are often represented as a graph. The topology of a network determines the optimum path for each flow.
There are two different ways which can define the network geometry.
A network’s physical topology is the layout of the nodes, the physical connections including wires. The physical topologies include bus network topology, star network topology, ring network topology, mesh network topology, tree network topology, and data center networks, etc.
Logical / Signal Topology:
A network’s logical topologies refer to the relationship between logical connections and nodes. A logical connection will be different from the physical path when information takes an individual hop at the intermediate point.
Hybrid Topology is a combination of two topologies. It combines two or more topologies to form a network. You can choose the two topologies of your own choice. This topology then gives the advantages and disadvantages of both of those topologies you select.
Advantages of hybrid topology:
- It is reliable.
- Error detection is easy.
- Troubleshooting is easy.
- It is effective.
- It is scalable.
- Its size can be increased easily.
- It is flexible.
Disadvantages of hybrid topology:
- It is expensive.
- It is complex in design.
- It is difficult to maintain.
- It is difficult to install.
