CAT4: Category4 is used in token ring networks. It can support 16 Mbps for up to 100 meters.

CAT5: Category5 is used in Ethernet-based local area networks. It contains two twisted pairs. It can support 100 Mbps for p to 100 meters.

CAT5e: Category5e is used in Ethernet-based local area networks. It contains four twisted pairs. It can support 1 Gbps for 100 meters.

CAT6: Category6 is used in Ethernet-based local area networks and also in data center networks. It also contains four twisted pairs but they are tightly wound twisted pairs. It can support 1 Gbps for up to 100 meters and 10 Gbps for up to 50 meters.

Disadvantages of UTP:

It has limited performance over distance.

Its performance is affected by installation-related factors.

It has bandwidth limitations.
